Subject: 21338/GrantAppl-Jt-HamCo/Riverpark(CoolidgePkSegment) Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1993 09:04:00 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 21338 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT A JOINT APPLICATION WITH HAMILTON COUNTY FOR GRANT FUNDS FROM THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVATION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE COOLIDGE PARK SEGMENT OF THE TENNESSEE RIVERPARK AND TO ASSURE THE LOCAL REQUIRED MATCH. WHEREAS, the City of Chattanooga is committed to the controlled development and preservation of our riverfront as detailed in the Tennessee Riverpark Master Plan; and, WHEREAS, the Tennessee Riverpark serves to conserve our riverfront as well as provide a new and needed leisure resource; and, WHEREAS, the Coolidge Park segment will include development of the former Naval/Marine Corps Reserve site as a public park and extend the riverwalk along the north bank of the Tennessee River between the Market Street Bridge and the Chattanooga Theater Centre; and, WHEREAS, grant support from the Recreation Services Division of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation is available through the Local Parks and Recreation Fund to assist with said development; and, WHEREAS, by agreement, funding will be divided by the City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County; and, 0C WHEREAS, Hamilton County will also meet half of the local match requirement; and, WHEREAS, the Tennessee Riverpark's success demonstrates the effectiveness of public and private sectors working together in our community's interest; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That: (1) The Mayor is hereby authorized to sign a joint application with Hamilton County for $250,000 in grant funds from the Local Parks and Recreation Fund for development of the Coolidge Park segment of the Tennessee Riverpark; and, (2) On the condition that the State awards this grant the City of Chattanooga assures that the requirements for the local match will be met by funds already budgeted, provided that the City share will be equal to that of Hamilton County.
